Emily Deschanel Answers What Fans Really Want to Know About David Boreanaz

Friday, June 4th, 2010

To make out with David Boreanaz or not to make out with David Boreanaz.

Hmmm…That is the question for the lovely Emily Deschanel, who–newsflash–doesn’t just star on Fox’s Bones but is also a producer (not just a pretty face!) and therefore has her say in what happens with her character, Bones, and David’s character, Booth, in the coming season.

I just chatted up Emily, and asked the question you fans have been shouting from the rooftops…

“Are Booth and Bones ever going to flipping get together?!”

And if you aren’t aware that is the question, well, then you didn’t see Bones’ juicy 100th episode in which Bones and Booth came thisclose to sealing the deal.

“[In] the 100th episode we came very close,” Emily answered carefully. “And I think we keep moving forward.” Ah, this girl is good. Moving forward…into each other’s arms? “I was just talking to Hart Hanson, the creator of our show, about if Booth and Brennan get together in the next season, and I can’t tell you what we decided.”

So there has been a decision? Interesting!

You can watch Emily in the video below–debuting her short new ‘do!–for her take on the future of Bones and Booth, how Comic-Con attendees may have sealed their fate, and also if and when Emily’s sister, Zooey Deschanel, might be back on the show…

‘Bones’ Scoop from Emily Deschanel and creator Hart Hanson

Wednesday, May 12th, 2010

Bones fans, brace yourselves. I come bearing gifts from an exceptionally spoiler-ific conference call that star Emily Deschanel and creator Hart Hanson had with reporters this afternoon, in which the pair revealed several nuggets regarding the series’ finale two episodes of the season. But before we get to the spoilers served piping hot, here are a few (relatively safe) tid-bits to nibble on:

++ Hanson sees Angela and Hodgins’ relationship (or Hodgela, as he called them — yes, he went there) as completely different than Bones and Booth’s. “We’ve always known that Angela and Hodgins belong together.… The scene where they talk about how they broke up has existed since they broke up. It wasn’t in a jail cell — I didn’t know where it would happen — but that scene has been written for a long time, where they realize why they let eachother go. It just felt like the right time to get them back together. I do sometimes think of Hodgela — Hodgela? [he scoffs at himself, as Deschanel says he's now "coined a phrase"] — of Hodgins and Angela as a steam valve. It lets off some pressure [that fans build up watching Bones and Booth go back and forth]. But it’s its own story.”
++ Hanson has what could be the final scenes of Bones already written. “I do know where it’s going. It’s just how many steps between now and then are that I don’t know.”
++ The show will (as of now) keep its Thursdays at 8 p.m. timeslot. But things can change.
++ They once seriously explored a crossover with Lie to Me, but it didn’t work out. A crossover is not completely off the table. “It’s one of those fortuitous things. We’ll see if the network wants it and has the will for it to make it happen,” Hanson said.
++ A Bones movie was once talked about, but there are no plans now.
++ Hanson said six scripts exist for next season and eight stories are being developed. “As I was writing the season finale, the writer’s room was churning out the stories for next season. We’re quite a machine.”

This next part is not safe for spoiler phobes. So shoo!

Emily Deschanel: I Don’t Need a Husband to be Happy

Sunday, February 7th, 2010

Emily Deschanel has found her primetime niche in Fox’s Bones as Dr. Temperance Brennan, the brilliant but socially challenged forensic scientist who finds it easier to solve crimes than get along with others, especially the opposite sex.

Could the fifth season end with Brennan and Booth, the hunky FBI agent played by David Boreanaz, getting hitched? Deschanel didn’t say “no” when she talked with Parade.com’s Jeanne Wolf.

Are they or aren’t they?
“It seems to me that Brennan doesn’t want a child unless it’s Booth’s child, so we’ll see where it goes. I do want to see them get together and their relationship is going to change dramatically at the end of this season. The two of them have had this chemistry together. But, the physical side of it has evolved very gradually. I think that’s been a great way to explore a relationship.”

The things she loves about her off-beat character.
“How flawed Brennan is and yet, how strong and intelligent. I think it is wonderful to have a character who has this great strength along with a bunch of idiosyncrasies that provide some humor to balance the grimness of her job. And she doesn’t pretend to be modest. I think it’s endearing that she calls herself a genius all the time.”

What they have in common.
“Science and math were always my favorite subjects, so I can relate to that part of her. I don’t put up those walls like Brennan does. I’m a more open person. But I can be a little fearless even though I think she’s more fearless than I am. We both take things literally. We’re both like, ‘ Just get down to it. Just explain it to me, nuts and bolts.’”

She’s not feeling any pressure to get hitched.
“I am so happy my parents never made me worry about finding a husband. My mother chose to get married and have children, but she raised my sister and I very much as modern women who don’t need that in your life to be happy. Sometimes it does frustrate me that a lot of people assume you will get married and raise a family. You don’t have to. But who knows? I may very well do both.”

Facing up to the ugly side of Bones.
“I leave it behind. The emotional stuff can take its toll, so I try not to take it home. In some ways, I’ve become desensitized to all the trauma. I don’t know if that’s a good thing or a bad thing. But during the first season I was so ready for it to be done. I’d had enough of blood, gore and horrible deaths.”

Why she doesn’t always look like a star.
“We were always inspected before we left the house and if we’d have one piece of lint on our outfit we’d get called on it. My mom was always going, ‘Put on some lipstick.’ No wonder that I like being messy and occasionally look a little like a bag lady. That’s my rebellion. I like to run around with no make up on whatsoever.”

What she’s learned about living.
“You can definitely have bad times, but I try to like have a moment where I look outside of myself and see that I’m making some kind of horrible face at what’s happening. Then I just laugh at myself. I think it’s really important to laugh at yourself. And don’t forget we have this great gift, life. But we don’t have it forever.”
